Meet Taylor Rae Wiggins, February Educator of the Month

Taylor Rae Wiggins, Educator with Unite, encourages educators to teach a class they’d want to take. Her passion for learning is why we’ve selected her as Premier Beauty’s February Educator of the Month!

What’s your favorite product from Unite?

It’s so hard to name just one product, but if I really had to choose, I would say TEXTURIZA Spray; no one gets away from my chair without it. TEXTURIZA gives hair tons of body and volume without the stickiness or crunch you can sometimes get from other hairsprays.

What's the newest, freshest approach you're bringing to education?

I’m a very hands-on person. I learn best by interacting with the information, so that’s how I teach. Walking through everything with the students step-by-step gives them a much better understanding of the concepts versus a lecture-style format. I always try to keep it laid back and not intimidating—I want students to ask questions as they come up.

What are the common problems faced by stylists today?

I’ve seen a lot of people, myself included, struggle with the confidence to sell products—it can be really intimidating, especially when you’re just starting. I was able to work through this by watching the veteran stylists in our salon and how they approached selling. Being able to take what you’ve learned and confidently talk about the products is a huge selling tool, but it can take a little time to develop.

One thing I love about Unite is that they provide a ton of background on their products and the company. They keep everyone in the loop and make talking about their products easy and fun.

What do you want stylists to know about education?

Education is VITAL in this industry. Even as an educator, I still take classes, watch videos, etc… It is important to stay inspired! If you feel overwhelmed, start by grabbing a doll head and practicing the things you want to get better at.

Any advice for educators?

Treat every single class as if you were going to attend it. Give a class you would want to take. If you don’t genuinely care to inspire those around you, it will show, and could discourage someone from taking classes despite wanting to learn.

What are your educator goals?

I would eventually like to focus solely on education and editorial work. I am inspired by so many of the Unite educators and being a part of that is very rewarding!
