Living Proof Educator Katie Oskowski’s expert advice on hairdressing is why we’ve selected her as Premier Beauty’s May Educator of the Month.

What’s your favorite product from your brand?

My favorite product would be the Dry Volume Blast. It has the most “wow” factor to it. Living Proof answered fine-haired challenges with this volumizing and texturizing molecule. You put it on dry and can spray it from roots to ends. It creates a revivable volume and texture that is as light as air!

What's the newest, freshest approach you're bringing to education?

Whenever I start a class, I try to relate to participants as equals. I’ll sit down with a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze for a little bit to set the tone. I get excited to answer everyday hair challenges with answers and scientific proof! And of course, fun and creativity!

What are the common problems faced by stylists today?

Because so many stylists are independent contractors, they stop learning and branching out. That curve in the industry where everyone became independent instead of staying in bigger concept salons has halted education. I would like to see more independent contractors coming to classes.

What do you want stylists to know about education?

Education builds your business, too. Your clients like to see that you’re learning new things and continuing your education. Growth all-around is important.

Any advice for educators?

Find something you’re passionate about enough and continue to share it enthusiastically! Whether that’s color, cutting, styling, or picking a brand to partner with and represent. Wherever you find your passion, make that your thing.

What are your educator goals?

My goals as an educator are to continue to inspire, create, and represent Living Proof.

What new skill would you like to learn?

I would like to do more editorial in the future. I had the opportunity to do Fashion Week in Los Angeles a few years ago. It was fun, intense, challenging, and long hours but I loved every minute and still think about it.
