Meet Rebecca Ramey, June Educator of the Month

06.01.2018

Rebecca Ramey, Gold.KEY Educator for COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY, can turn anything and everything into an opportunity to become a better stylist. Her openness to new experiences has earned her the coveted spot of June Educator of the Month for Premier Beauty!

How’d you get your start in education?

I started small and began to teach young hairdressers at the salon where I work. I LOVED IT. I love learning new things myself, so it was a perfect situation.

What’s your favorite product from your brand?

My favorite product is definitely our Clear shade. It isn’t just any other clear—it’s completely unique. It is extremely versatile, which keeps me versatile. It can lighten, brighten, or dilute depth in any shade while still depositing reflect. It can also fix some situations that I normally would have had to turn to bleach. It keeps my colors from getting too dark, helping the hair look fresh and shiny without compromise.

What's the newest, freshest approach you're bringing to education?

So many new techniques and developments in hair color have emerged in the last eight years. There is no wrong way to do anything. I want to have as much knowledge and tools as possible so I am better able to service my client. In the end, when it comes to education we all want something practical, relatable, and something we’ll use daily. Luckily, at KEVIN.MURPHY we provide education, core fundamentals, and new techniques based on what is trending in fashion, so it has a fresh feel every year. This makes us more confident, which leads to happier clients who return again and again.

How do you plan to solve the pressing problems in the industry?

We are all faced with having to give our clients something spectacular in a short period of time (in a world of social media where things look so easy). Everyone is so busy now and time is precious. Having a very clear conversation with our guests about what can be achieved in a certain amount of time can help us accomplish our goals. At COLOR.ME, we have come out with new techniques and products that can help us give our clients maximum satisfaction in these short windows.

What do you want stylists to know about education?

Take any opportunity you can whenever you can to learn something new. Something you thought was old may circle its way around again. The more you know the better you are. Be humble and keep going!

Any advice for educators?

I learn something new from people I’m teaching all the time. Sometimes it’s something as simple as a better way to drape a guest for a color service. Keep your mind and heart open.

What are your educator goals?

I would love to eventually do some platform work and be a Diamond Color Key with Kevin Murphy.

What new skill would you like to learn?

I would love to be better at hairdressing. Color is my world but color and styling, in my opinion, go hand in hand. The more education I can get on this, the better.
